Guided Fly Fishing Trips On The Rio Grande River

Your adventure begins at 8 a.m. when you’ll meet your guide at our storefront, Ramble House, located on North Main Street in Creede. Upon arrival, you’ll complete some brief paperwork, secure your fishing license, and pick up your gear. All necessary equipment is provided with no hidden fees, though you’re welcome to bring your own if preferred. Afterward, you’ll head to the river with your guide. Most guests prefer to ride with their guide for a relaxed experience. A half-day float lasts about 4 hours, bringing you back to the shop around noon or 1 p.m. Full-day trips last 6-7 hours, with return to the shop around 3-4 p.m.

What To Bring

Please bring any food or snacks you’d like, as we’ll have a cooler stocked with water. Don’t forget your polarized sunglasses for better visibility on the water. For float trips, we typically stay on the boat except for bathroom breaks and lunch, so dress in comfortable outdoor clothing. Waders are generally not necessary unless specifically recommended by your guide. While we provide all the gear, flies, and leaders, if you prefer to bring your own rod, we suggest a 9ft, 5 or 6wt rod. And, of course, it’s a good idea to bring rain gear just in case!

Fish of the Rio

The Upper Rio Grande is primarily home to brown trout, which make up about 90% of the fish population, with some rainbow and cutthroat trout mixed in. The average size of the fish is around 14-15 inches, though 18-inchers are not uncommon, and you might even encounter a trophy fish over 24 inches!
